Trustees at the Girls’ Day School Trust have appointed Nina Gunson as the new Head of Shef eld
High School for Girls.
Mrs Gunson will join from Wake eld Girls’ High School, an independent day school for girls, where she is currently head of the senior school.
She was formerly deputy head at Shef eld Girls’ from May 2011 to August 2015, where she played
a key role in the leadership and management team.

appointment of two new Heads to lead the Boys’ and Girls’ Senior Schools in 2018.
Mrs Claire Tao, who is currently Deputy Head at the City of London School for Girls (CLSG), will take
over as Headmistress from Mrs Louise Robinson when she leaves
at Easter 2018. Mr David Wickes will join Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School as Headmaster in September 2018. David is currently the Deputy Headmaster at Warwick School.
Claire started her career in industry and following the completion of an MSc in Personnel Management
After 22 years of headship at Widford Lodge, Essex, Simon Trowell will be stepping down at the end of the current academic year.
The next Head will be Michelle Cole, currently the school’s Academic Deputy.

She began her teaching career as
a biology teacher and Head of Careers at Bradford Girls’ Grammar School, before joining Buttershaw Business & Enterprise College in Bradford as Head of Science, rising to Assistant Head.

She then went to Dulwich College Preparatory School as a Chemistry Teacher and Housemistress before moving to CSLG where she has been for 10 years. Claire’s interests include the theatre and hosting social events and she is also looking forward to continuing her love of cycling in the Northern hills.
After achieving a Master of Arts degree at Oxford in History and a further Master of Arts from King’s College, London, David pursued a teaching career at Dulwich College and then Abingdon School. He enjoys travelling in Europe, visiting the theatre and watching most sports including following the ups and downs of Southampton FC.
Michelle joined Widford Lodge
as a teacher in 2003, having
been a parent at the school since 1998. Her career in the banking industry, working in the areas of audit, compliance and operations provided her with valuable relevant experience. Over the last few
years, as well as leading Maths at Widford, Michelle has trained as
an ISI inspector and has been able to offer guidance to the school as educational regulatory requirements become more complex and demanding.
  Matthew comes to the school from Haberdashers’ Aske’s School, where he is Second Master (equivalent to
Judith Fremont- Barnes, who is currently Head of Duke of Kent School in Surrey, will be the next
Head of Milton Abbey School, Dorset. Mrs Fremont-Barnes will take up post on 30th August to coincide with the current Head, Mr Magnus Bashaarat, taking up the post of Head at Bedales.
Mrs Fremont-Barnes was educated at Kingston Grammar School
and Christ Church, Oxford where she read English Language and Literature. Her  rst teaching appointment was at James Allen’s
Shrewsbury School has announced the appointment of Leo Winkley as the next Headmaster. He will take up his
position in September 2018.
Leo Winkley has been Headmaster of St Peter’s School, York since 2010. He is also currently Chair of the Boarding Schools’ Association and of the City of York Independent State School Partnership. He has previously taught at Ardingly College and Cheltenham Ladies’ College, where he was Head of Religious Studies, and at Bedales
Nick Robinson will be taking up the position of Headmaster of West Buckland Prep School,
Devon, this Spring, joining from his position of Head at Bedales Prep School, in Hampshire.
Nick joined Bedales from Castle Court where he was Assistant Headmaster. Nick’s career in teaching Maths and Sport began after completing his PGCE at the University of Portsmouth in 2002
