400 recycled bikes have left Hymers College, Yorkshire, on behalf of the Avenues Bicycle Project on their way to the Village Bicycle Project (VBP) in Sierra Leone to be distributed amongst farmers, health workers, school teachers, students and school children who are living, working and studying in rural areas.
2017 marked seven years of The Avenues Bicycle Project working
with VBP, and has resulted in over 2,800 bikes being shipped to West Africa. Prior to shipping, the bikes are refurbished by prisoners in HMP bike workshops provided by the Margaret Carey Foundation.
As part of their ‘In the Community’ programme, Hymers College provides a free storage space for The Avenues Bike Project to house the donated bicycles throughout the year prior to shipping to Sierra Leone. Students at the college also held a bike collection earlier this year; gathering over 80 bikes for the collection.
The charity already has 60 bikes to kick-start the 2018 collection. If your school would like to donate a bike, or be involved with the project, please contact The Avenues Bicycle Project Co-ordinator, Chris Jarrell, on 07715307942 or alternatively by email abp.coordinator@gmail.com

“
Password Pupil has given King’s Ely a single-platform testing management system for years 6-13 for all our international applicants. The content is rigorous, valid and randomly generated and managing the system has proved simple with excellent customer support from the Password ELT Team. From an academic point of view the system offers a cohesive way to compare results to the CEFR and general English levels while the online writing tasks are varied and appropriate for Academic school-level English. Within the school we have become far more ef cient as Password means all of us in admissions and management can access results directly, reducing emails and phone calls on a day-to-day basis. Password has given us a bespoke, professional and effective product that exceeded our expectations and meets our international admissions needs completely.”
